The Day After

So the day after we we finished the COBDR we took a break from the big bikes and headed to Hubbard Mesa for a lil fun in the high desert (which also happens to be less than 10 miles from Casa TNT.)  It was warm, not much shade, some barrowed bikes and singletrack but a decent breeze.

Day Five - Rocks, Roots and Repairs

Today was probably the longest day of the trip (150ish miles).  We went from Buena Vista to almost Gypsum.  We crossed Westin, Hagerman and Crooked Creek Passes all still well over 10,000 ft.  Today's ride was almost all off road.  We started with sand and went through mud and roots and ended up back in the rocks.  Not sure how but we stayed dry because there were storms all around us.  We checked the sky as we were about to cross each pass and even kind of raced over Hagerman to beat a storm.  Thunder and lightning loomed in the background as we snapped the pic on top of Hagerman. Also, before that just as the guys finished up the tire repair up on Weston pass a dark cloud rolled up and started to spit rain amd hail but we out ran it.

The other cool thing that happened today was that we saw a moose family between Hagerman and Cooked Creek.  They were way across the field (hard to pic up with a phone camera)...you might have to wait til later for the camera pics to be uploaded.  There were a lot of repairs today.  We had bolts rattle out of Ryan's bike,  the exhaust manifold came loose on Chris' bike, Rick got a flat, and Tom lost a bolt on his foot peg (so it spun on him).

We camped on gypsum creek road anout 15 miles out of town at a remote camp right next to a wonderful sounding creek.

Dont forget photos and text get added to the blog sometimes a couple of days after a post as we have more time and available cell signals!

Day Four...there's more?

Yep, there's more. The high Colorado Rocky Mtn passes keep coming. But, no snow today. We had another great day along the BDR. Today we crossed Wuanita Pass, Cumberland Pass, and Cottonwood Pass...all without incident or bad weather.  We stopped in the cool little town of Buena Vista, CO for the night and again are enjoying some of the local fair...we are camped right outside of town in a dispersed camping area.
